SUNLU S4 Filament Dryer Review – Best Dryer on the Market?!
SUNLU have released a new filament dryer called the SUNLU S4 Filament Dryer and I’ve been using it to see just how well it works.
I’ve tried a few filament dryers so I know how others perform on the market.
I’ll be reviewing the S4 Filament Dryer, going through the features, specifications, benefits, downsides, as well as the unboxing process.
Features
- Large Capacity
- Efficient Heating
- Humidity Control
- Pre-Configured Temperature Settings
- Highly Compatible
- 1 Year Warranty
Large Capacity
SUNLU S4 filament dryer comes with a design size of 458x218x312mm. Its size allows it to contain up to 4 rolls of 1KG filament. Plus, it is equipped with eight filament holes, and PTFE tubes, which meets the users’ demands for drying multiple filaments and for concurrent printing while drying with multiple printers.
Also, you can store/dry larger filaments in the S4 dryer, but you would have to make tiny adjustments to its frame. SUNLU has made the STL files of this upgrades available so that you can easily print it, if you intend to store larger filaments.
Efficient Heating
Another great feature of this filament dryer, is its ability to efficiently heat up the filaments when operating. It comes with a PTC heating element (Positive Temperature Coefficient Thermistor) and a triple-fan configuration which allows it to heat up the enclosure faster and distribute it evenly.
The PTC element has a power rating of 330W, a 6.9x increase when compared to its predecessor, the SUNLU S2. This allows it to get to its max temperature (70℃) in less than 30mins.
The left and right-side circulating fans and the bottom heating fan in the chassis ensure that the temperature in the chassis is balanced ±3℃, and every part of the consumables can get even drying effect.
Humidity Control
Not only does the S4 dryer monitor the temperature level, it also detects the humidity levels of the enclosure.
You can set this RH (Relative Humidity) setting between 30-50% manually.
The dryer has a storage mode (MO2), that automatically monitors the humidity levels of the enclosure and when it passes the set threshold, it will automatically start the dryer until the humidity drops to 25%.
Pre-Configured Temperature Settings
It comes with pre-configured temperature settings of commonly used filaments such as PLA, ABS, PETG, as well as TPU, PA and PC.
These configurations are based on testing data, providing optimal drying time and temperature. By expanding options while reducing setup complexities, we aim to improve your experience.
High Compatibility
The dryer is compatible with a wide range of filament types, including Nylon. It can work with various 3D printers and can support 4 different printers at the same time. Also, it is compatible with filaments of 1.75mm, 2.85mm, and 3.0mm diameter.
There are also many holes where you can feed filament through if you want to use it as a filament storage while you print. This means you can keep your filament in there and dry it as needed.
1-Year Warranty
When buying this machine, you automatically get a one-year warranty on it for issues that may arise within this period.
This is to reassure you of the quality of the product. However, the use of non-original brand power supply or not in accordance with the instructions for the correct operation of the damage caused by the warranty is not covered.

Unboxing
The unboxing of SUNLU S4 filament dryer is a straightforward as it gets. It comes in a compact box packaged with Styrofoam all round to protect it from scratches or any form of impact while its being transported.
When you open the box, you will find the filament dryer already assembled. Open the filament dryer and take out its accessories. Customer Reviews
One Amazon reviewer stated that she purchased smaller filament dryer before this one and wished she had ordered this one first. She said it helped her create some amazing prints out of nylon as it can maintain the humidity at 13% in a room that is 30% to 60% humidity.
Also, she liked that it came with enough tubing and the nylon filament does not even have to touch the outside air by the time it travels to the extruder. She no longer gets strings whenever she prints with nylon.
Another Amazon reviewer stated that he had a PLA filament that was always stringing with poor adhesion to his plate. He placed the filament in the S4 dryer, and he had no issues printing with it afterwards.
You can also check out this review from Modbot as he gives a detailed breakdown of the SUNLU S4 filament dryer.
Here’s another review video from Aurora Tech, as she compares the print quality of various filaments before and after they are placed in the S4 filament dryer.
Conclusion
The SUNLU Filadryer S4 is a filament dryer that really ticks the boxes that people have been asking for.
As time goes on, people are getting more filament and have more drying needs. Being able to fit four filaments at the same time is a very useful feature which saves us time and energy.
It allows us to focus more on the printing rather than drying.
