On 3D Jake, a popular 3D printer seller, the rating is 4.3/5.0 but with just 12 reviews altogether.
It really is a mixed bag of experiences. Let’s start with the positive side of things.
One user mentioned that the Anycubic Vyper is the 6th 3D printer that he has in his collection, showing plenty of experience in the 3D printing field.
Assembly was very quick taking only around 10 minutes, and it even has a drawer that is magnetically held in at the front for your tools such as Allen wrenches and other parts.
It was his first 3D printer with automatic bed leveling and it worked very well the first time. He skipped straight past the initial calibration test and printed a proper model, which came off the print bed perfectly.
Another benefit that he experienced is how you don’t need to have a scraper to remove plates due to the flexible build plate that you can bend to remove prints.
The build plate has a lovely textured surface, along with the cool golden look. It leaves a nice finish at the bottom of your 3D prints. In terms of operation, the touchscreen was definitely appreciated, describing it at the “most responsive touch screen out of any of my printers”.
A different experienced user mentioned that this is their 3rd 3D printer and they love how it performs. They preferred to have a larger build volume like the CR-10.
A feature that one user appreciated is how easy the setup was, along with the auto-leveling. Things worked very well straight out of the box and operated a lot quieter than the Ender machine they had.
In terms of print quality, they said it was excellent. They did a challenging 24-hour print and it came out successfully. Quiet printing, an easy setup, and ease of use are all qualities that the Anycubic Vyper holds.
Again, another user loved the built-in storage drawer that slides out, adding to the convenience and ease of use.
A beginner who tried out the Vyper as their first machine mentioned just how simple it was to assemble and use. They had a pretty easy to setting things up and were pleased that it comes with pretty much everything you need to get up and running like a pro.
The SD card comes with Cura so you can download it and process your STL files. They were creating their first model on the Vyper in less than 10 minutes.
On the other side of things, one user said this was their 2nd 3D printer purchase, previously owning the Ender 3. They got it mainly because of the auto-leveling feature, but the first print attempt didn’t go as well as others.
Firstly, they couldn’t locate the files on the provided SD card, but it was in a folder which they initially have trouble finding since there weren’t instructions about this. They said they fixed this by moving the file to the root of the SD card to print it.
In my experience, you can usually select folders directly from the 3D printer menu, but this may have not been the case.
Another issue came up when they tried printing the file. The printer made a few movements across the print bed then displayed the error “the filament is insufficient or the filament sensor is malfunctioning”.
They tried restarting the print but the same thing happened. After looking into things, they found that another user upgraded the firmware to fix this issue, but there were no instructions by Anycubic to get this done that they could find.
This was a negative experience on their part, and these things should have been easier to navigate, especially if the user is a beginner. If you have more experience with 3D printing, you could probably overcome these obstacles easier.
Another negative review mentioned issues with the auto-leveling feature not working as expected, and even causing the nozzle to scrape into the build plate.
There were a few reports of the extruder breaking after a user noticed filament stopped coming out the nozzle. Ideally, the extruder should last more than a few days of printing in this case. In most cases, I don’t think this is an issue, but it still occurred in this case.
You could either choose to get a replacement extruder or as this user chose, to return it through Amazon.
Verdict – Worth Buying or Not?
The Anycubic Vyper had a lot of steam behind it, with many excited users snatching them off the market. Even though reviews have been mixed, I’d still recommend getting this 3D printer for yourself, mainly because of the brand name and careful design features implemented.
There is definitely room for improvement to fix some of these smaller issues, but overall, the Anycubic Vyper seems to be a worthy purchase for 3D printer users out in the market for a new 3D printer.
